A Tribute to David Goodgame

I owe much of my interest in psychology and counseling to my uncle David who treated me like a younger sister. I find it difficult to put into words how profoundly he affected my life. He is dearly missed.

Obituary for Thomas "David" Goodgame

David Goodgame, loving husband of Susan Clark Goodgame and devoted father to
two daughters, Madeline Grace Goodgame and Chloe Elizabeth Goodgame, 16 and
22 years of age, respectively, died July 23, 2011 at his home in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born to Rita and Thomas Goodgame, June 5, 1960 in
Little Rock, Arkansas.

David attended Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic School in Little Rock,
Arkansas, and Monte Casino, Cascia Hall and Bishop Kelley Catholic schools in
Tulsa, Oklahoma. His first summer job at Shadow Mountain Behavioral Health
Center in Tulsa influenced David's life's work.
He earned a BA degree in Philosophy from Trinity University in San Antonio,
Texas and an ME in Counseling and Guidance from UT Austin and Texas State
University. He willingly gave long hours of his free time counseling at Child
and Family Services, Hospice, in-school programs and hospitals.

He interned his pre-doctoral in Clinical Psychology at Houston Psychotherapy
Institute and received his Ph.D. from Fielding Institute of Santa Barbara,
CA. David practiced in Houston until 2000. Upon returning to Tulsa, David had
the pleasure of working again with his colleagues and friends at Shadow
Mountain where he eventually became clinical director.

David loved the Classics. He studied French, German and Greek, attended La
Roche College in Pittsburgh, PA, and Heidelberg University in Heidelberg,
Germany. He had a keen interest in both nature and the arts. He sometimes
communicated with his mother via haiku and was accomplished in acoustical
guitar. An avid reader, David consumed Webster's dictionary and the
twenty-six World Books when he was just a boy.

Though his life was shortened, David meditated, never lost hope and lived in
the moment. An insatiable scholar, an excellent listener, a witty, kind and
gentle man, David fought for his life with determination, bravery, humor and
faith with the loving help of his wife and daughters, dedicated doctors,
nurses, chaplains, priests, Hospice, family and friends. Thomas David
Goodgame left the world a better place. He will be missed.
